Abraham & Isaac
Notes from Pastor Lance Shumake's sermon on September 21, 2022.
We picked up our GREATEST STORIES EVER TOLD series on Sunday with the story of Abraham and Isaac in Genesis 22.
God tests us so we will learn to trust Him
James 1:2–4, "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing."
“God tests the faithfulness of believers by asking them to surrender to him the best they have.”
—Allen Ross, Creation and Blessing
God always keeps His promises so we have reason to trust Him
Hebrews 11:17–19, "By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was in the act of offering up his only son, of whom it was said, “Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.” He considered that God was able even to raise him from the dead, from which, figuratively speaking, he did receive him back."
God provides for us so we see that we can trust Him
God provides in the right place at the right time in the right way.
God blesses us so we can bring Him glory as we trust Him
Romans 8:31–32, "What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?"
