David Engel
At our Membership Celebration on Sunday, we had the privilege of installing three new deacons at Crosspoint! Over the next week or so, we will be introducing each of these men on our blog and social media channels.
To start… meet David Engel!
--
David and his wife Lissette have faithfully served our body for the past three years. They co-lead a Community Group and our Lord’s Supper Team, and have previously led our Crown Financial course.
From an Army family, David was born in Germany (...Lissette was born in Cuba!) and grew up and raised kids in Southern California. Married for 37 years, David and Lissette have a grown son, David Eisaiah, who lives in Dallas with his wife, Katie; and a daughter, Jackie, who lives in Heath with her husband, Andrew, and their children, Isabelle and Sammy. After becoming empty nesters, the Engels moved to Rowlett in 2012 as part of a work relocation for AT&T (...David has worked with the company for the past 38 years, in the Risk Management department). In their free time, they love to spend time with their 3-year-old goldendoodle, Emma.
While David was born and raised Jewish, a co-worker led him to know Jesus in 1985 during a lunch time Bible study.
(David has previously shared his incredible testimony with our church body, you can
watch here!)
The Engels have been part of Crosspoint since 2019 and became leaders at our church almost instantly. David said, “I love everything about Crosspoint -- the plurality of elders, expository preaching, the seriousness of the congregation in following Jesus, the maturity of the youth and young marrieds. I think the elders model great humility and that permeates our church. We are a friendly and encouraging church, built on the Bible. There's no perfect church, only a perfect Savior, but I think ours is amazing! I love that we pray for and support other congregations. We embrace and celebrate that we are only one part of the larger world-wide body of Christ.”
David and Lissette have a special heart for helping people with their marriages and finances. He said, “We have a great marriage now and our finances are in good shape, but both of those blessings have not always been the case. For that reason, we have a heart to help people in their marriages and with their finances if anyone expresses an interest in learning from our experiences and mistakes.”
When asked how the Lord is growing him in this season, David responded that though he’s a work in progress, “Jesus is showing me my need for Him more and more to do anything - John 15:4-5” and that he’s also “getting more and more ready and excited to leave this earth and be with Him one day - Philippians 3:20.”
We are thrilled to have David now serving our body in the capacity of a deacon! Please comment below with a note of encouragement for David.
