"I need Jesus just as much as my kids do."
I remember the night very clearly. We were at a Bible study on parenting. I was going on about how disobedient kids can be and how it’s really hard to understand why they act that way toward their parents. A guy raised his hand and said, “That’s probably exactly how God feels toward us.”
I often think of that moment and how it reminded me that we are ALL sinners and have all fallen short of the glory of God. I need Jesus just as much as my kids do.
When I’m actively reminding myself of the grace, love and forgiveness God has displayed toward me (despite the darkness of my sin), it changes the attitude of my heart. It affects how I respond to others in their sin. It affects how I parent.
When my kids are walking in disobedience and rebellion, I have to remind myself that I’m no different. When I was walking in sin and rebellion, God extended grace and love toward me. He addressed the state of my heart and pointed me to Jesus.
I need this regular reminder of the gospel as I strive to address the sin in my kids’ hearts and point them to Jesus.
Scott leads our deacons, serves on the setup team and is a member of our finance team. Tamara serves on our Crosspoint Kids team on Sunday mornings. They are pictured with their kids: Luke, Cole & Dylan.
