The Hope of the World
From Pastor Lance Shumake's sermon on Acts 4:11-17:
As the BRIDE of Christ, we are loved and led by Jesus. As the BODY of Christ, we are joined together as one body with many parts. As the FAMILY of God, we are adopted into God’s family. As the PILLAR of truth, we are entrusted with the truth of the gospel.
As the HOPE OF THE WORLD, we are sent into the world on mission.
In Acts 4, Jesus’ disciples are on trial for healing a crippled man. Peter responds by calling out Jesus’ name and power. He declares that there is no hope in the world outside of Jesus. Jesus is the ONLY hope.
Because we [the church] are convinced of this truth and the world is not, this should motivate us! It should show up in every area of our lives and lead us to mission.
God’s master plan to deliver the only message of hope [JESUS] to the world is through the church! (Ephesians 3)
Jesus came to earth to seek and save the lost. It was a rescue mission.
As the bride of Christ, we are to align our lives with Jesus’ life. We are to align our church’s focus and purpose with joining Him on that mission.
….We must ask ourselves, how can we be the hands and feet of Jesus in the time and place He has us?
Our call to mission starts right where we are.

“The mission of the church is to go into the world and make disciples by declaring the gospel of Jesus Christ in the power of the Spirit and gathering these disciples into churches, that they might worship the Lord and obey his commands now and in eternity to the glory of God the Father.” — Kevin DeYoung, What Is the Mission of the Church?
