Don't Give Up
At this point in Zechariah, Israel is discouraged because they have yet to finish God’s temple. So God gives them a vision in chapter 4 that encourages them to keep going.
Verse 6 is pivotal to this encouragement,
“Then he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.”
We are to work at what the Lord calls us to by His Spirit.
Don’t give up…
—because God empowers the work by His Spirit
The Holy Spirit is God’s presence and God’s power with His people.
The Holy Spirit indwells us, empowers us, counsels us, guides us, teaches us, convicts us, helps us, encourages us, unites us, and produces Godly fruit in and through us.
—because God takes care of the obstacles
John 16:33,
“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
—because God completes His work
God finishes what He starts, and when He does we all will shout GRACE!
Philippians 1:6,
“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”
—because God gains glory through our work
Matthew 5:14–16,
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
—because God works greatly through small things
“Participation in God’s kingdom by obedient service to God is always the most wonderful privilege, however insignificant the particular task of the moment may appear to be.”
