Sermon text: 2 Peter 2:1-3
False Teachers:
Are Sneaky
- 2 Cor. 11:14 even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light
- There is a general naiveté among many Christians that somehow false teachers will be easily recognized….These people do not announce themselves as impostors! -Paul Gardner
Deny (or minimize) God’s Judgment
- Jer. 23:17 They say continually to those who despise the word of the Lord, ‘It shall be well with you’; and to everyone who stubbornly follows his own heart, they say, ‘No disaster shall come upon you.’”
- 2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions.
- When these teachings are carefully put in terms of the ‘love’ of God for his people and the ‘non-judgmental Jesus who loves everyone’, it is fairly easy to see how many will follow these lies. -Paul Gardner
Are Driven By Greed
Are Under Judgment
- Sometimes as we see false teachers at work, we are tempted to think that they cannot be all that bad, especially if they are very nice people and talk of God and his love. It is important to remember that they will face the wrath of God on the final day of judgment. -Paul Gardner
