"We needed God to redirect where our marriage was headed."
Sometimes, God redirects us directly.
Two weeks ago, Scott made this point in his sermon. That truth really resonates with us.
You see, we were two very busy individuals, with three small kids, a business, jobs and a church - but we were spent. From the outside, we looked great. But really, we were busy in all the wrong ways. We were spread so thin that we had very little left for each other. Although we were married, we functioned more like roommates. There was no genuine a ffection. No genuine desire for each other. We were so blinded by our busyness that we didn’t realize our marriage was falling apart.
Sin had crept in and taken hold of our hearts. We were blinded to it all - until one day, the blinders came off. It was painful, devastating and sobering.
That dark day, two years ago, was a turning point for us. We needed the wake-up call. We needed God to redirect where our marriage was headed.
In his grace, he used the sins in our marriage to reveal his goodness. Goodness that never would have been revealed without it.
In his grace, he surrounded us with Godly friends to walk with us through the dark and murky waters.
In his grace, he allowed us to restore our marriage.
It was difficult, painful, and even embarrassing, but God used the suffering to redirect us, refine us and restore our marriage. He used something really hard to restore something that was so broken - just like Jesus on the cross. God used Jesus’ death on the cross to restore our broken relationship with him.
Our marriage is still far from perfect. But, we’re so humbled by the grace God has extended to us both personally, and in our marriage.
