“He WILL wipe away every tear"
“He WILL wipe away every tear (Rev 21:4). For now, our joy is through tears.”
This tweet by John Piper caught my eye early in the morning on January 7, 2011. I remember reading it several times and thinking, “Wow. That’s really good. I need to remember that for when I’m going through a difficult season.”
Little did I know, that just a few hours later, I would need to cling to the truth of that scripture. That afternoon, when we learned there was no heartbeat and in the days that followed as I miscarried, the hope of Jesus and eternity were an anchor for my grieving heart.
I found joy through the tears. God had prepared my heart for that loss through the gospel truth of Piper’s tweet - and in that I rejoiced. He continued to encourage us through scripture and community - and in that we rejoiced.
This world is broken by sin and death and yet, there is hope for those who believe in Jesus. He will wipe away our tears and death will be no more. There will be no more miscarriages, no more pain. And we will dwell with God.
I look forward to that day. But for now, our joy is through tears.
How are you finding joy through the tears?
