“When I was 17 years old, a fellow student at HCA came to chapel and shared about his recent mission trip to the Amazon in Brazil. I went home that evening and told my parents that I wanted to go on the same trip the following summer.
Since I was young and had never really travelled further than south Texas, my parents thought one of them needed to go with me. My dad drew the short straw, and a few months later we hopped on a plane and flew to Brazil with a group of people we hardly knew.
It was during this trip that my dad’s eyes were opened to the world water crisis and the desperate need people have for the Gospel.
After this trip in 2012, my dad did some research into the water crisis and water filtration as a way to share the Gospel, and from this,
The Bucket Ministry was created.

I never know what to say when people ask me why I decided to go on that trip, because honestly I have no idea. I know that also sounds like a really silly thing to say. I rarely even stayed the night at friends’ homes because I did not like being away from my own home.
So at this point you have to kind of come to the conclusion that it wasn’t a 40 year-old businessman—
who had no desire to go on a mission trip—and his 17 year-old daughter that started this ministry.
Instead, it was two people whose every step and every decision at beginning of this, were influenced by the Holy Spirit.
If you look at it from any other angle, it does not make any sense.
This is the beginning of how I got involved with The Bucket Ministry. In the past decade, I have been a part of this ministry in one small form or another. I have gone on trips to a few different countries with them, Brazil of course holding a soft spot in my heart. My degree is in Special Education so I spent my first few years out of college teaching. Since then, there have been more and more opportunities for me to serve with the ministry, but my stubbornness and own hang ups have kept me from ever fully committing to serve with them in an official capacity. Shouldn’t I be doing something in the field that I went to college for? Is this opportunity just here because I am Chris’ daughter, not because I can actually make a difference here?
After many conversations and confessions to God about all these insecurities and selfish worries, I came to the conclusion that I have this wonderful opportunity in front of me to share the good news of Jesus Christ with people across the world.
At the end of the day that is all that matters.
I was able to step into a role with The Bucket Ministry where I still get to work with children and youth, and also be obedient to joining God in the work He is doing through this ministry.
I suppose obedience to God’s call doesn’t always look like we had planned, but it is always more worthwhile than we could have hoped.”
