Therefore Let Us
Notes from Lance Shumake's sermon on Sunday, May 14, 2023.
Sermon text: Hebrews 10:19-25
Since we have confidence in our access to God
Since we have a great high priest
Let us draw near to God
Romans 12:1
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
Let us hold fast to the truth
“Nothing is more important than what ideas we believe; nothing so shapes the way that we will live, and nothing is more important to the Christian life than the content of the faith we profess. Therefore, we are not to be silent, nor to compromise the truth we have received, but to hold unswervingly to the gospel truths and promises that give us our hope. “He who promised is faithful,” says our writer, and we, as a result, can be faithful to him.”
—Richard D. Phillips
Let us consider how to help one another
—stir up
—show up
—lift up
Questions for discussion:
- Describe some of the things we have learned about Jesus’s greatness so far in Hebrews.
- What habits, activities, and disciplines help you draw near to God?
- Why is it so hard to hold fast to the truth in our world today?
- What can help you hold fast to the truth in spite of our culture?
- How can you help yourself focus on God and others during our Sunday gatherings?
- How can you help yourself focus on God and others throughout the rest of the week?
